Entertainment Live Music Booking FAQ’s
WHY SHOULD I USE SELECT MUSIC GROUP TO BOOK MY BAND OR PERFORMERS?
All our bands and performers have been vetted to ensure that they are not only great entertainers but are also reliable and professional.
Select take care of any booking contracts and other legal requirements so that you don’t have to worry about this. We also make sure all our artists have up to date Public Liability Insurance, Electrical Safety Certificates and the equipment necessary for the performance.
As part of our service we provide guidance and advice so that all parties know what is expected and what facilities (such as power, staging, lighting, PA etc. or other equipment) they each need to provide.
We also ensure that the act has safeguards in place to cover eventualities such as sickness.
CAN I BE CERTAIN WHAT I SEE ON THE WEBSITE ACCURATELY SHOWS WHAT THE ARTIST I BOOK WILL BE LIKE WHEN THEY PERFORM?
We rely on video & pictures to let our clients see the acts they go on to book so it is important that these are an accurate representation of what they can expect. Many of the pictures & videos on our website have been produced by us but we do also rely on media of performances provided by bands and performers. We believe this is the best way to show what a performer will deliver.
Combined with testimonials from previous clients and our personal contacts with them we believe we only represent quality and reliable acts.
If there is any significant change before a performance (such a change of lead singer in a band) we will always contact you and discuss this.
WHAT HAPPENS IF MY ARTIST IS ILL OR UNABLE TO PERFORM FOR SOME REASON?
In cases of illness or other unseen issues (such as family bereavement, “force majeure” etc.) most of our bands may still be able to perform with substitute musicians. If the whole band has to cancel or if an individual artist is not able to perform, we will do everything possible to find a substitute you are happy with. As well as our own artists we have a wide range of industry contacts we can call on in such an unlikely emergency.
As a last resort, if an artist you have booked does not perform for any reason other than unforeseen matters beyond their control (force majeure) you are fully protected by your contract. We oversee this process to make sure you are covered and documentation is completed in a timely way.
Ultimately you have the right to legal redress but we know what you really want is your event to go ahead as planned so we will always contact you immediately as soon as we know about any problems and find the best substitute or solution.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I NEED TO CANCEL?
Once you have booked an artist it is likely they will have to turn down other bookings on that date and may not be able to replace your booking – especially if the cancellation is at short notice.
Having said this we appreciate that your plans may change through no fault of your own so unlike many other agencies we operate a sliding scale of cancellation fees. Basically, the earlier you can let us know you need to cancel the less you have to pay.
Full details of any cancellation charges are clearly set out in our contract / terms and conditions or we are happy to discuss them with you.
WHAT IS THE ‘ARTIST RIDER’?
The rider is a list of things that should be provided or arranged by you to ensure that the band or entertainer will be able to perform this may include access to the venue, changing facilities, soft drinks etc. There may be occasions where more items will need to be included on the rider due to the nature of the act’s performance. This will always be outlined prior to your booking being confirmed.
WILL BANDS AND ARTISTS PROVIDE ALL THEIR OWN EQUIPMENT?
In most cases bands and artists provide everything they need in order to perform. However, if you, for example, book a musician to perform alongside a DJ they may need to plug in to a suitable / shared mixing desk and PA.
If a venue or event is very large artists may need to hire in additional AV (Audio / Visual) equipment or utilise AV equipment provided by another company. We will discuss these arrangements at time of booking and if you wish we can arrange the hire and operation of any additional AV equipment, including staging, lighting etc. as required.
